Leading Pediatric Eye Care & Myopia Management

We are recognized as a leading expert in pediatric vision care and myopia control. We know how to interact with children to ensure they are comfortable and responsive during visits, ensuring every session is both pleasant and productive.

What's Myopia Control?

Myopia or nearsightedness is a largely unrecognized epidemic that is projected to affect 50% of the global population by 2050, with children at the greatest risk for myopia progression. This trend is largely due to the decrease in outdoor time coupled with the increase in near-demand from digital devices. Myopia increases the risk of serious sight-threatening diseases such as myopic maculopathy, retinal detachment, cataracts, and glaucoma. The risk of developing these sight-threatening eye diseases increases exponentially with the degree or amount of myopia.

At LT Optometry, we are committed to preserving vision and slowing down the progression of myopia through Orthokeratology (Ortho-k) and MiSight Contacts. We specialize in innovative treatments to correct mild to severe myopia, correcting myopia as high as -12.00 diopters. Our Ortho-K expertise provides a revolutionary non-surgical solution that slows myopia progression, which is particularly crucial in our digital age with increased screen time and reduced outdoor time. Trust us to safeguard not just your vision but also your overall eye health with cutting-edge care.

What’s Ortho-K?

Ortho-K is a safe and effective treatment that temporarily reshapes your cornea with a hard contact lens that you wear while you sleep. This custom-fit Ortho-k lens applies gentle pressure to the central portion of your cornea to flatten it and correct your myopia. Ortho-k lenses are similar to dental retainers. The effects are not permanent and can be reversed. If you stop wearing the Ortho-K lenses, your cornea will return to its original shape. When you continue to wear the Ortho-K lenses nightly, it will provide clear vision during the day, freeing you from wearing glasses or contacts during the day. This freedom from glasses and contacts gives you greater confidence and the ability to do physical activities such as play sports and go swimming. At LT Optometry, many patients began their Ortho-K journey as children and have continued to wear their Ortho-K lenses happily and successfully into adulthood.

What’s MiSight?

MiSight 1-day soft contact lenses are specifically designed for myopia control and are the only FDA-approved soft contacts to slow myopia progression in children ages 8-12. When you wear MiSight contact lenses, you see clearly while slowing your myopia progression through its dual-focus design. For MiSight contact lenses to work effectively it is recommended that they are worn for 6 to 8 hours daily for at least 5 days of the week.

Dr. Lina is MiSight certified and can properly fit you for MiSight 1-day contacts. At LT Optometry, we have the complete MiSight fitting set.

Myopia Evaluation & Treatment

We employ advanced diagnostic tools such as corneal topography, thorough ocular surface evaluations, and specialized pediatric eye exams. These comprehensive assessments help us tailor precise treatment strategies for each child.

Dr. Lina is CRT (Corneal Refractive Therapy) certified, allowing her to use a variety of different Ortho-K lenses to treat mild to severe myopia. Our detailed patient training and education covers everything from lens insertion and removal to proper cleaning and handling of lenses. Our myopia treatment protocol includes unlimited training and follow-up visits.

Early Eye Care Awareness

Starting eye care early is crucial. We support the InfantSEE program, offering free eye exams for children under one year to detect conditions like amblyopia (lazy eye) or strabismus (eye turns) early on. Regular exams should continue at ages 3 and 5. For more details, visit InfantSEE.

Continued Eye Care

Our commitment to your child’s vision extends beyond initial treatment. We provide regular evaluations and maintenance checks every six months to ensure the treatment remains effective and to adjust as needed.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Myopia, or nearsightedness, causes distant objects to appear blurry while close objects remain clear. It’s particularly concerning in children, as it can worsen rapidly with growth and increase the risk of future eye health issues.

Early detection is crucial. We recommend eye exams for children as early as 3 years old to identify any early signs of myopia or other visual impairments.

LT Optometry offers advanced solutions like Ortho-K lenses and MiSight contacts, specifically designed to control myopia progression in children.

Absolutely. Ortho-K lenses are worn overnight to temporarily reshape the cornea, improving vision during the day without glasses or contact lenses. They are safe and effective for children, provided they are managed by an experienced optometrist.

Encourage a positive outlook by allowing them to choose frames they like, and be patient as they adapt to their new vision. Regular follow-ups with our optometry team ensure comfort and proper fit.
